James “Jim” Sampson (Jan 3, 1939 – April 3, 2021) considered himself a generalist artist, being able to work in many different modalities, including sculpture, pottery, industrial design, stained glass, printmaking, and painting. He was interested in art at a young age and carried that with him through adulthood. See his printmaking work on display and for purchase at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana November 3-11, 2024.
Doug Stremick is 81 years young and lives in Story City, Iowa. He retired from a long-time career in manufacturing within the appliance industry and picked up wood turning as a hobby 10 years ago. It soon turned into a passion as he became a member of the Woodturners Club in Ames, Iowa. Doug is known for his keen woodworking skills, fine craftsmanship and attention to detail among his woodturning peers. He has worked with various types of wood throughout his hobby, including burl wood and takes great care in each piece of art he creates.
A joint pop-up art exhibit, featuring works on display and for sale from Jim Sampson and Doug Stremick will occur November 3-11 during gallery hours, Tuesday – Friday from 10am-4pm.
An Artist Reception will be held on Saturday, November 11 from 5-6:30.
