The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana and Building Blocks are partnering to present early childhood Creative Exploration Days at the Bower-Suhrheinrich Foundation Gallery on Main Street. Children ages 1 – 5 and their caregivers are invited to spend time in the gallery moving, building, creating, reading and imagining, because early learning happens through creative play. Staff from Building Blocks will be on-hand to share expertise, ideas and insight with caregivers as little ones interact with art supplies, instruments and movement toys. Taking Care of Business 2023 Join the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana and the Small Business Development Center for a free morning of professional development. The SBDC will begin the day with "Launching Your Own Business," a guide for artist entrepreneurs, which will be followed by "Digital Marketing for Creatives," led by our very own Director of Development and Experienced Marketing Strategist, Lisa Moore. 9:00 - 9:15 - Welcome Coffee 9:15 - 11:15 - Launching & Managing Your Own Small Business 11:15 - 12:00 - Marketing for Creatives This event is FREE for Arts Council members and $15 for non-members. Join us for the Spooky Show (2023) exhibit reception! Dozens of Halloween-themed entries by local artists will hang in the Arts Council's Bower-Suhrheinrich Foundation Gallery at 212 Main St. in Downtown Evansville. The reception is 5-6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. No cost to attend. The exhibit will be open on Oct. 5-27.
The annual Chili Bowl sale will be held on Tuesday, October 31 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on the East Terrace Lawn. The rain location is Eykamp Hall, University Center. For $10, customers can buy a one-of-a-kind ceramic bowl and fill it with chili. Lidded containers will be available for those who prefer not to put chili in their newly purchased bowls. Larger bowls ranging from $15 - $100 will also be for sale during the event. Part of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to a local food organization to assist with fighting hunger. The rest
A joint pop-up art exhibit, featuring works on display and for sale from Jim Sampson and Doug Stremick will occur November 3-11 during gallery hours, Tuesday - Friday from 10am-4pm.
An Artist Reception will be held on Saturday, November 11 from 5-6:30.
For your Sunday afternoon enjoyment, the Orchestra showcases several musicians as soloists. Principal Trumpet Micah Reinharz and Bonnie Farr on English horn will be featured during the first work, "Quiet City," painting a formidable picture of New York, a thoughtful musical commentary of a city that is internationally renowned as never sleeping. Principal Clarinet Emily Cook performs the “Adagio” from Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto highlighting gorgeous and lyrical melodies. Principal Second Violin Michael Chu performs Saint-Saëns’ virtuosic "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso."
